Looking for an exciting and rewarding way to spend your summer? Look no further!

King County Teen Program is seeking enthusiastic and responsible youth to join our team as Summer Recreation Aides to support our 8-10-week Summer Recreation Program.

As a Summer Recreation Aide, you will work closely with a Program Leader to supervise groups of children and teens in a variety of fun and engaging recreational activities. You'll be part of our front-line staff and have the opportunity to teach activities like games, arts and crafts, athletics, and special events, all while gaining valuable experience in leadership, teamwork, and communication.

While not always working under direct supervision, you'll receive frequent inspections and reviews from a supervisor to ensure you're doing your best work.

All successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to employment.

Job Duties

What You Will Be Doing

  • Assist in planning, organizing, implementing and monitoring youth activities.  
  • Interact with participants in a positive and supportive manner, providing a role model for participants.
  • Be proactive in resolving conflict among youth and ensuring a safe environment.
  • Enforce Recreation Program rules and King County policies and procedures.
  • Represent King County Parks in a professional manner to youth, parents, school and agency personnel, and the community at large.

Qualifications You Bring

  • Working knowledge of the principles, rules, and equipment required in a variety of recreational activities.  
  • Skill in providing excellent customer service to a diverse customer base.
  • Skill in communicating clearly and respectfully.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with other employees.


The Successful Candidate Will Have the Following Competencies:

  • Customer Focus - Building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions.
  • Communicates Effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
  • Collaborates - Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.

  • Values Differences - Recognizing the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization.

Required Licenses and Other Qualifications

  • Maintenance of current CPR and First Aid certifications. If necessary, help will be provided to obtain the certifications in compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age to apply.

It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:

  • Demonstrated skill in providing and following oral and written instructions. 
  • Ability to prepare written reports as assigned.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations that may arise.

Working Conditions:

  • Work LocationSteve Cox Memorial Park, 1321 SW 102nd St, Seattle, WA and West Hill Community Center (on the Dimmitt Middle School Campus) 12320 80th Ave; Seattle, WA,
  • Work Schedule: The work schedule for this position is flexible and can be varied and event driven. This position will work approximately 15 -20 hours per week and may require weekends and late evening work. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
  • Union Representation: This position is not represented by a union.
  • Physical Requirement
    • Ability to working outdoors in all types of weather as needed.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • May require lifting, bending, reaching, sitting for long periods of time.
    • Ability to assist with program set-up and take-down.
