Job Description:

The mission of Accessibility Resources for Students at Berklee is to ensure access, create an equitable college experience, and promote inclusion for students with disabilities in all classes, programs, and activities on all Berklee campuses. Through collaboration and partnerships with students, faculty, and staff, Accessibility Resources for Students strives to lead in the creation of inclusive learning environments that are usable, equitable, and sustainable. The Access Coordinator is an essential staff member of Berklee’s Accessibility Resources for Students Team. The primary responsibility is to manage the daily operations of our dedicated and proctored Testing Center. The assistant position also assists with the overall operations of the Accessibility Resources for Students Office.

The Access Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Accessibility Resources for Students and assists the office in implementing and assessing the short and long-term goals for Accessibility Resources for Students in alignment with Berklee’s Accessibility Framework, Diversity Equity and Inclusion and the Student Enrollment and Engagement Framework.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accommodated Testing

  • Administer Berklee’s accommodated testing services for students with disabilities.

  • Manage the daily operations of accommodated student testing services, including but not limited to exam tracking, schedule coordination, faculty communication, and proctor supervision.

  • Manage administrative work associated with testing, including, but not limited to, filing, printing, computer setup, and scheduling exams.

  • Recommend policy and process improvement to the Director

  • Serve as Accessibility Resources for Students liaison to faculty regarding accommodated testing access and protocols.

  • Supervise graduate work-study students, including but not limited to scheduling shifts, training, and staffing support.

  • Act as a proctor during high-peak testing periods.

  • Work directly with students to ensure access to approved testing accommodations.

  • Maintain a professional and pleasant atmosphere to create an environment for optimal test performance for all students.

  • Maintain confidentiality of students receiving accommodations due to a disability.

Alternate Format and Assistive Technology

  • Assist in the generation and distribution of alternate format materials.

  • Maintain accurate cataloging and tracking records for alternate format materials.

  • Provide guidance and instruction for students in the use of assistive technology.

  • Coordinate student supports with the Assistive Technology for Visually Impaired Students Lab and other campus partners.

  • Promote available assistive technology to students, faculty, and the campus community.

Accessibility Resources for Students Operations

  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records within the Accessibility Information Management (AIM) database, including student information, documentation, accommodation requests, and communication history.

  • Assist the office in answering emails and phone calls.

  • Complete required record-keeping and data collection.

  • Attend weekly staff meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Some nights, weekends, and holidays required.

  • Occasional business travel.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Minimum of two years of higher education experience or equivalent.

  • Experience working with people with disabilities.

  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills. Able to write clear and concise notes, emails, and professional correspondence. Communicates effectively with a diverse student population, faculty, families, medical experts, rehabilitation personnel, and social service agencies.

  • Ability to independently prioritize and organize tasks efficiently and manage time. Able to exercise independent judgment and represent Accessibility Resources in the absence of the Director.

  • Demonstrated competence in active listening, assessment, and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Preferred Experiences and Skills:

  • Masters’ degree in related fields such as Rehabilitation Counseling, or Higher Education Administration.

  • Prior experience in an arts education environment.

  • Knowledge of online and regional resources for creating accessible formats.

  • Experience in supporting visually impaired students and students on the autism spectrum.

  • Working knowledge of digital accessibility and assistive technology tools.
