Overview

This role is critical in designing and managing core components of REI’s industry leading Climate and Impact strategy. It manages and guides the creation of new processes that allow REI to understand, communicate and further operationalize progress against its decarbonization goals. This role manages carbon accounting and reporting for REI while improving carbon data quality and driving actionable insights via innovative and rigorous data analysis. This role will embed climate and broad sustainability goals throughout all product and business divisions at REI. The role requires deep expertise on corporate climate tactics and strategy, the ability to partner across many business divisions, and an inquisitive mindset. The success of this role will be reliant on strategic and collaborative engagement with a broad group of internal and external partners.


Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Works with sustainability team and key partners to analyze carbon data from across the enterprise, with a particular focus on supply chain carbon data, to drive actionable insights in support of decarbonization tactics and financial investments.
  • Designs and manages a scalable carbon reporting program that allows for enterprise-level tracking of current state and progress on carbon reduction goals and targets for all of REI. Ensures accountability and transparency with cross-divisional partners.
  • Works with internal and external partners to build or identify, integrate and manage a carbon accounting and reporting platform that allows for actionable insights and decision-making across all divisions at REI in support of the enterprise climate strategy.
  • Supports sustainability team and divisional partners on a broad set of carbon and sustainability-related initiatives, e.g. improved carbon data quality, carbon reduction forecasts, and impact reporting approaches and frameworks.
  • Designs and manages an enterprise-level reporting program that allows for compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and annual and ongoing reporting of climate and sustainability goals and targets for all of REI.
  • Engages with key partners to ensure the impacts of product design, materiality, and supply chain decisions are understood and managed in pursuit of REI’s carbon reduction goals.
  • Partners with divisions across the Co-op to evaluate the business case and governance structure for impact and sustainability goals.
  • Partners with divisions across the Co-op to embed and scale climate and sustainability goals within divisional business plans.
  • Leverages a design thinking and strategic mindset to work collaboratively across REI to define division-level priorities, problem definition and solutions in support of enterprise-level sustainability goals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Environmental Management, Sustainability or related field or comparable work experience required.
  • Master’s in Environment, Business or Strategy preferred.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in a sustainability or environmental discipline -- including specific experience in enterprise carbon accounting and reporting.
  • Demonstrated carbon analysis, financial analysis, and sustainability analysis skills.
  • Experience creating and operationalizing the business case, insights and strategy for enterprise-level sustainability and impact goals
  • Extensive prior experience with carbon (greenhouse gas) accounting, including the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol and evolving sectoral standards and practices
  • Significant proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization. Experience with a carbon accounting technology program preferred.
