The Stewardship Manager position will be hybrid, commuting to the Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve (8101 Jalama Road, Lompoc, CA 93436) at least twice a week (and more frequently as needed).

WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Stewardship Manager provides technical leadership and support at the Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve, directing and implementing preserve management plans and stewardship. They address critical threats to natural systems and individual species, fosters cross-site learning among TNC land stewards, scientists and external partner institutions. They develop and implement land management strategies, including prescribed fire, cattle grazing, and invasive species control to enhance biological diversity. They manage infrastructure projects including road repair and maintenance, and lead a team to maintain the Preserve's critical ranch infrastructure like fences, gates, signs, and native landscaping. Collaborating with other preserve staff and external partners, the Stewardship Manager develops tools to positively influence other TNC preserves in California and neighbouring natural lands. The Stewardship Manager supervises other stewardship team members, providing guidance and effectively delegating responsibilities amongst the team. They will work closely with the preserve's restoration and science team to ensure thoughtful, long-term management is incorporated into restoration and research projects. The Stewardship Manager will support preserve visitation and will occasionally host volunteer events and donor tours.

The Stewardship Manager must commute (at own expense) to the Preserve at least twice per week and additionally as needed for business operations.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • BA/BS, and 5 years of experience in natural resource management or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience planning and managing complex projects with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
  • Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.
  • Experience with principles of land management.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated
  • Knowledge of land management conservation practice and conservation science.
  • Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management, and natural resource preservation.
  • Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay for this position is within the range of $70,500 - $82,825 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA, state of employment is California, and counties of employment are Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura. Where a successful candidate's pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's location, qualifications, skills, and experience. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
