Job Summary
The Senior Equipment Dispatcher will ensure that the MBTA roadway, on-track equipment and facilities are maintained in an efficient, effective and safe manner; coordinate equipment repairs; and direct and supervise the activities of truck drivers and equipment operators for specialized equipment used to support the Maintenance of Way (MOW) crews and other MBTA Departments.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Supervise a large, specialized staff while working independently with broad guidelines, seeking the advice of supervisors or senior management as needed.
* Schedule and assign equipment and operators required for both day and night operations.
* Develop and modify the daily equipment log sheets, incorporating scheduled and non-scheduled requests for equipment and operators as needed.
* Approve daily reports, timesheets, and pay differentials.
* Hire Equipment Operators for overtime duties and coordinate personnel vacation requests.
* Submit time sheets to the area's timekeeper for processing.
* Manage the Maintenance of Way Department's vehicle inventory and storage, including coordination and monitoring of departmental vehicle allocations and assignments.
* Coordinate vehicle inspection and repair activity with the Automotive Equipment Maintenance Department.
* Direct roadway and on-track equipment placement and storage.
* Ensure that equipment test runs are conducted on a timely basis.
* Supervise activities for effective snow removal operations, including the assignment, direction, monitoring of service, recording and control of sanding, salting, plowing, and removal of snow from Authority property.
* Investigate non-revenue vehicle incidents, non-reported vehicle damage, unusual occurrences, misuse or unauthorized use of vehicles and equipment, including interviewing employees involved and submitting written reports to supervisors and respective areas.
* Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.
* Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed.
* Respond either directly or through subordinates to emergencies on a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day per week basis.
* Establish an effective interface between management and employees, and when necessary, with union representatives.
* Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
* Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the
fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.

* A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with the ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc., in English
* Five (5) years of experience in track maintenance and construction on rapid transit and/or surface lines.
* Experience as an MBTA Equipment Operator or MOW Instructor.
* Have a valid class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with general knowledge and air bake endorsements.
* Have a valid hoisting engineer's License with 1(b), 2(b) and 3(a) endorsements.
* Effective organizational, analytical, confidentiality and multi-tasking skills.
* Ability to effectively communicate with customers, employees and vendors, contractors, designers, and state and federal agencies.
* Have excellent customer service, negotiation, conflict resolution, reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills.
* Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
* Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
* Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.Substitutions Include

Preferred Experience and Skills
* Knowledge of automated record keeping systems; and/or related or any experience in a supervisory capacity.
