Job Description
The Novel Expression Systems (NES) team is seeking a Scientist with experience in fermentation operation, bioprocess development and optimization. Our team is part of the Continuous & Expression Technologies group within the Process Research & Development Enabling Technologies organization. We are tasked with introducing and advancing expression systems across a range of organisms that will be applied to discovery and development of novel biologics and vaccines, as well as to our engineered enzymes. Our all-modality team works closely with scientists across our company to advance science and technologies with the goal of improving human health.
As a member of the Fermentation team in Novel Expression System group, the applicant will serve as an individual scientific contributor as part of a team responsible for bioprocess development and optimization of various expression systems for enzymes, vaccines, and other bioproducts. The candidate is also expected to carry out collaborative research supporting the implementation of these methodologies which involves conceiving, designing, and executing process development experiments. A successful candidate should also have excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills and maintain a focused attention on laboratory safety for everyone on the team.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
With medium to minimal supervision, design, conduct and analyze fermentation experiments and data at multiple scales including but not limited to shaking flask, Amber250, benchtop bioreactors, etc.
Close collaborations with Strain Engineering team within NES group and other cross function groups for operation and scientific support.
Contribute to a safe and compliant laboratory work environment.
Education Minimum Requirement:
BS with 2+ years of experience, or MS with relevant academic or thesis experience in biological engineering, biotechnology, biological science, microbiology, or related field.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Hands-on experience in fermentation/cell culture process development and optimization, from seed culture to harvest.
- Experience with fermentation process control strategies for key process attributes in batch and fed-batch modes.
- Experience with typical process analytical methodologies for biomass and key metabolites measurements.
- Technical knowledge and know-hows in basic purification processes.
- Well-developed organizational, record-keeping, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Experience with Ambr250 bioreactors and workflow
- Experience with High-Throughput small scale fermentation systems Experience with both prokaryotic and eukaryotic expression systems
- Experience with statistical data analysis tools, design of experiments and data pipeline for visualization
- Familiarity with GxP principles and regulations
