Job Summary

The position is within the Department of Internal Medicine/Cardiology, working with Dr. Garcia-Barrios team within the Vascular Defense and Development lab headed by Dr. D. Pinsky.  The individual will contribute as technical and contents expert with ample and demonstrated experience to work independently towards generating new, high-quality data for publications and grants, while providing support for the lab logistics, within a highly diverse and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities*

  • Working closely with the PI on development and implementation of current research projects in the lab: conduct cellular and molecular biology experiments (including developing and implementing protocols and troubleshooting); data collection, analysis and interpretation. Preparation of corresponding figures/reports independently for publications and grants.
  • On boarding and orientation of students or new postdocs in the lab: assist with the training of the postdoctoral fellows and students, including monitor compliance and regulatory trainings, preparation of their posters and figures. As a technical and content expert in the field, aid fellows on literature search for development and implementation of new protocols.
  • Responsible for day-to-day laboratory maintenance logistics (ordering, inventory, supplies monitoring, equipment monitoring, etc.)
  • Genotyping, colony management, and in vivo experimentation with specialized mouse protocols.
  • Development of new models for data analysis and contribute to data collection while working with the PI in writing and development of proposals/grants for new areas on research and publications. Serve as co-investigator in grant proposals and interact with outside collaborators.
  • Attending lab meetings, unit meetings regularly and present their research, at the unit, locally at the institution and nationally. Attend CVC meetings, when required or when relevant to the work at hand.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's Degree required with 5-6 years of related experience, and publications in the cardiovascular field, including biochemistry, molecular or cellular biology aspects of disease, and denoting substantial contributions. 
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular diseases to an extent that allows to contribute significantly to coordinate and achieve project goals.
  • Prior experience working in small teams, including trainees. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.  
  • Experience in oral presentation of results to diverse audiences and to coordinate and analyze lab data for the preparation of reports to NIH, publications and grants. 
  • Experience on equipment use and maintenance, including decision making for repairs. 
  • Can operate as subject specialist and technical expert, with very limited supervision. 
  • Experience with on boarding and assistance with training of fellows and students. 
  • Experience with mice colony maintenance and implementation of in vivo protocols. 
  • Evidence for autonomy in analysis and interpretation of data, including knowledge of advance data analysis approaches. 
  • Evidence for leadership and active contribution to preparation of posters, publications and grants, including substantial co-author/first authorship. 
  • Can interact with various companies and collaborators on behalf of the PI to ensure progress towards common goals. Has experience on compliance and contributing to development of regulatory protocols.

Desired Qualifications*

  • PhD Degree preferred. 
  • Knowledge or willingness to work in interdisciplinary teams, coordinating research, and maintain continuing training state of the art data analysis.

Work Locations

This is a full-time position with the expectation of completing 40h/week on site at the MSRB3 building.

Background Screening
