Internship Opportunity: Health Services Research & Quality (HSRQ) - Department of Cardiac Surgery

The Health Services Research & Quality (HSRQ) section within the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Michigan Medicine seeks a motivated and passionate intern to join our team of technical developers.

This unpaid internship offers a unique opportunity to apply your programming and data skills to real-world projects that drive quality improvement and research in cardiac surgery. You will gain exposure to a wide range of technologies and methodologies while working alongside experienced developers, clinicians and research staff.
What You Will Work On
Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration & Problem Solving - Translate non-technical ideas and research questions into technical solutions, contributing to healthcare research.
Web Development & Application Design - Work on front-end and back-end development.
Database Development & Management - Build, optimize, and manage relational databases.
Data Analysis & Visualization - Create datasets for research and quality improvement.
API Development & Integration - Work with RESTful APIs to exchange data.
Python & .NET Programming - Develop scripts, tools, and applications.
Tableau Dashboards - Design and implement data-driven dashboards for insights.
Healthcare Delivery - Gain exposure and understanding of healthcare delivery, including across phases of care delivery (e.g., pre-admission through post-discharge).

Databases: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, SQLite
SQL & Database Design
Python & Key Libraries: Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly

Required Qualifications*

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
