Job Summary

The Department of Epidemiology at the University of Michigan, School of Public Health is seeking a candidate to support research on environmental determinants of infectious diseases (dengue, Valley fever).

The successful candidate will split their time working with Drs. Joseph Eisenberg and Jennifer Head, who each lead research groups focused on understanding the transmission of infectious diseases within a changing environment. For Dr. Eisenberg, they will be responsible for spatial analysis of dengue and mosquito abundance data and a social network analysis of individual-level regional travel patterns. For Dr. Head, they will be responsible for the management and analysis of research related to population immunity to Valley fever and climate-driven changes in Valley fever within Western US States. 

There may be opportunities to travel domestically for field data collection with a maximum of three trips per year. The successful candidate will actively participate in research group meetings, generate and pre-register analytic plans, prepare datasets for analysis, conduct data analysis, and prepare reports including data tables and visualizations. They will contribute to the interpretation of results and preparation of manuscripts as first and co-author. 

Responsibilities*

  • Data management: Manages the organization, documentation, merging, cleaning, and storage of complex harmonized population datasets. Creates final analytic datasets.
  • Data analysis: Designs and executes complex data analyses. Pre-register analytic plans and interpret results, including creation of data tables, visualizations, and reports for presentation to the study team leadership.
  • Manuscript: Contributes to the writing of scientific manuscripts as co-author.
  • Support an interdisciplinary research team: Participate in research group meetings, including providing feedback to colleagues on their analytic plans, interim findings, data visualizations, and dissemination materials.
  • Other research-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

MS or MPH in Epidemiology, Environmental Health Sciences, or a related field. At least 1 year of experience in data curation and analysis using complex survey data. Excellent skills in data management and analysis, data visualization, and written scientific communication. Proficiency in using R to develop generalized linear models and conduct geospatial analyses; Proficiency in REDCap; experience using Microsoft Office Suite.

This position allows for a remote work schedule.

Additional Information

This is a term-limited appointment that will end one year from the start date of the appointment, with the potential for an extension depending upon available funding and performance.
