Position Description

Position Title: Research Analyst Intern

Department: Strategic Investment & Evaluation

Reports to: Economic Research Manager

Position(s) Supervised: N/A

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

* WEDC is a Wisconsin-based organization, with a remote-work first environment. Remote work is intended to be performed in the State of Wisconsin.

Position Summary

The Internship program is designed to introduce students to economic development policy, analysis, and research. The Research Analyst Intern primarily helps the team in support duties relating to data collection for economic development programs, input-output modelling, program evaluation, process improvement, and other research functions. The Research Analyst Intern primarily supports the needs of internal customers engaged in economic and community development throughout the state.

Responsibilities

The Research Analyst Intern will spend most of his/her time in these activities:

  • Compile and review economic development program data for report production.
  • Perform economic research and analysis.
  • Perform program file review and reconciliation.
  • Assist with completing internal and external requests for information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Current enrollment in a degree program related to WEDC services including, but not limited to: Data Science, Public Administration, Business, Statistics, Economics, or related field.
  • Experience or coursework in quantitative analysis, Power BI, Excel, Stata, R, etc. is preferred.
  • Interest or experience in data analysis, program evaluation, economic development policy or related area.
  • Experience in a professional services environment preferred.

Skills and Talents:

  • Strong research, analytical skills with a passion for working in state government or economic development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, sound reasoning, independent judgement, and initiative to accomplish tasks.
  • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite and other software or applications associated with assigned work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to deal effectively with senior executives, as well as diverse groups of people internal and external to the organization.
  • Requires a high level of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism.

Other Requirements:

  • Work events and role responsibilities will determine frequency into the Wisconsin offices; with the expectation of at least 1-2 times per month minimum for each employee.
  • Based on the responsibilities of this position, this position may need to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
