Job Summary

The D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is a 12-story hospital that will house 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care; a state-of-the-art neurosciences center; and high-level, specialty care services for cardiovascular and thoracic patients, along with advanced imaging. The 690,000-square-foot hospital which also features 20 surgical and three interventional radiology suites is being constructed adjacent to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, with plans for bridge and tunnel connections to existing inpatient care facilities. The anticipated opening of the new D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is fall 2025. 

The D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion at U-M Health Operating Room Unit will feature 20 operating suites with state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation supporting the following specialties: neuro-anesthesiology, neurosurgery (including MR/OR), oral maxillofacial surgery, otolaryngology, spine, and general thoracic.

Responsibilities*

Scrub and circulate in operating rooms assigned under the clinical supervision of a Charge Nurse, Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Nursing Director as appropriate. To rotate shift and accept call as assigned by Clinical Manager/Clinical Nursing Director. To assist in the teaching activities of the Operating Room.

This role will include Service Lead responsibilities for the Otolaryngology service line.  The scope of the Service Lead?s responsibilities include case preparation (advanced scheduling, special needs, communication with surgeons, instrumentation), vendor management (manage relationships with vendors, new equipment evaluation and orientation, investigating new products, facilitate capital process), education (clinical expertise, new employee orientation), ordering (special needs, cost reduction, inventory/equipment management), and doctor preference card maintenance.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required Qualifications*

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan.
Two (2) years recent, within the last three (3) years, otolaryngology experience including advanced circulating and scrubbing experience as a RN.
Ability to work with a non-responsive patient population.
Call commitment with 30 minute response time.

NOTE: All applicants selected to interview will complete a one day observation in the Pavilion OR (unpaid).
