The C4ISR Systems business area is looking for a Product Line Engineering Lead (PLEL) for our Systems Mission Systems Product Line. The Mission Systems team has more than 35 years supporting the defense community with end to end mission systems capabilities that unleash the power of sensors and weapons. As a leader in Mission Systems, you'll be helping to deliver mission applications including autonomy solutions for mission and flight planning systems, battle management with precision targeting and command and control operations, information management and data analytics, and ground support solutions.
The PLEL will be the primary engineering leader for a family of products focusing on program execution, new business growth, product leverage, product evolution, and continuous improvement. The PLEL provides engineering leadership for the product line during all lifecycle phases. Experience with opportunity shaping, proposal preparation, program planning, and program execution with strong cost account management and risk and opportunity management will be needed to mentor and lead a high-performance engineering organization. The successful candidate reports to the C4ISR Systems Business Area Engineering Director and sits on the leadership team for the Mission Systems product line.
Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work in coordination with the Mission Systems Product Line Director to establish, communicate and execute the growth strategy for the business
- Work in coordination with the Mission Systems Product Line Director and functions to create a high energy, mission and employee focused culture
- Actively engage in employee development and recognition events
- Partner with the Product Line Director and staff to develop and deliver products and systems that meet our customer needs.
- Partner and collaborate across all the disciplines, functions, and business areas to effectively support engineering across the enterprise.
- Meet cost, schedule and technical performance for Product Line projects through their life cycle.
- Ensure preparation and approval of competitive engineering bids that are executable, meet established price-to-win targets, and grow the business.
- Serve as overall customer (internal / external) engineering point of contact for the product line.
- In collaboration with the Product Line leadership team, prepare and communicate Product and Technology Roadmaps that sustain and grow the business.
- Identify and support the development of critical skills and resources.
- Develop and maintain measures related to engineering performance.
- Develop and lead continuous improvement activities and ensure adoption within the organization.
- Ensure proper application of process based on the size and complexity of the project.
- Establish goals, performance standards, budgets and staffing plans.
- Improve processes and skills that support programs.
As a leader and supervisor, the PLEL must also:
- Work across organizational boundaries to solve problems and secure resources.
- Communicate, inspire, and implement a compelling vision for the organization and exercise direct and indirect influence to make that vision a reality.
- Recruit, train, develop and retain Program Engineering Managers (PEMs) and teams to meet business needs.
- Perform supervisory duties in alignment with the business.
Position Expectations:
The PLEL will be a hybrid position based in San Diego office co-located with the Mission Systems Product Line Director. Although the PLEL will be a hybrid position, this role will primarily require work in the office as an influential business leader who will support classified work. The PLEL will travel to BAE Systems sites to connect with the Mission Systems engineers and for leadership team strategy sessions.

- Requires qualified candidates to hold a Top Secret security clearance
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum 15 years of technical leadership experience and mission/domain knowledge of emerging C4ISR systems and capabilities relevant to the business
- Proven ability to share and transfer technology across organizational boundaries to the benefit of our customers and the business
- Experience leading DoD or Intelligence Community software development programs and proposal preparation
- Ability to form a vision and implement action plans to achieve that vision
- Eligible to obtain and hold a Top Secret/SCI security clearance
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $169630 - $288370
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
