Position Overview:

We are seeking exceptional chemists to join Boston Discovery Chemistry as a postdoctoral fellow. The successful fellow will contribute to a multidisciplinary project at the intersection of peptide chemistry and chemical biology. This role will rely heavily on the use of chemoinformatics, mass spectrometry, and assay development. Owing to the multidimensional nature of the project, applicants will collaborate extensively with the Departments of Biochemical and Biophysical Science, Bioanalytical and Data Science and Analytical R&D (AR&D) groups to tackle forefront questions in peptide therapeutics. In addition to excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the successful fellow is expected to deliver high-quality peer-reviewed publications and present externally at chemistry conferences. We expect the successful fellow to have a proven record of solving complex problems in the area of peptide chemistry and/or chemical biology, and are motivated to expand their knowledge and skillsets as they advance their career.

Responsibilities:

Lead the invention and optimization of new methods for the preparation of tool molecules of relevance to chemical biology. Following are included and not limited to.

  • Learn and apply state-of-the-art MS/MS instrumentation

  • Disciplined decision making, strategic thinking, and creative problem solving

  • Network with colleagues and build effective working relationships with adjacent functional areas, including AR&D, Chemical Biology, Discovery-Biology, and Modeling and Informatics

  • Present ideas and results both internally and externally (conferences)

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Candidates must currently hold a PhD in Chemistry or a related discipline or completing a PhD by May 2025.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with peptide chemistry, chemical biology and/or organic chemistry

  • Proven ability to complete research projects, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations

  • Strong leadership, mentorship, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to independently design experiments, interpret data, and incorporate data into new designs leading to successful experimental outcomes

  • Functions well within multidisciplinary teams, and possesses outstanding oral and written communication skills

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in the field of chemoinformatics

  • Experience with solid-phase peptide synthesis and/or AS-MS affinity selection

  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning & adopting new technologies and tools

  • Anticipates the needs for contingencies, and plans alternative strategies as a means of risk management

  • Conceptualization of new ideas and project directions

  • Additionally, technical knowledge in mass spectrometry, specifically MS/MS, would be beneficial
