The role:
Are you passionate about highway safety and providing stellar customer service? If so, consider joining our Commerce and Compliance Division as a motor carrier enforcement officer in eastern Oregon. In this important role, you will help protect Oregon’s highways and structures by enforcing size and weight regulations, inspecting vehicles for compliance and issuing citations. You will also work with other agencies to help monitor and prevent commercial carriers from operating in unsafe manners. A day in the life:
Evaluate commercial vehicles as they enter weigh station or portable site for compliance.
Enforce safety laws and regulations through inspection and documentation.
Determine appropriate enforcement actions based on result of inspection.
Prepare written reports and aid in investigations of non-compliance.
Enforce size and weight restrictions.
Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with drivers, law enforcement, agency partners and the general public.
Clearly communicate violations to drivers and issue citations as necessary.
Work is performed in all types of weather conditions and requires the ability to bend, stoop, climb and crawl around trucks and scales. Must be able to lift and move 35-pound portable scales.
Required to work flexible schedules to ensure safe and efficient operations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Overnight travel may be occasionally required.

Comprehensive and equitable base salary offer within the listed range. Through an equal pay assessment, we will determine the salary offer using the information you provide in your submitted application materials. The salary range listed is the non-PERS monthly salary range. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible, the salary range will increase by 6.95%.

Minimum qualifications:
Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in person or by phone, providing information about services/programs, or explaining and/or applying laws, rules, regulations/procedures;
AND
Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
Completion of an associate's degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.
Special qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
