The role:
Are you passionate about highway safety and providing stellar customer service? If so, consider joining our Commerce and Compliance Division (CCD) as a motor carrier enforcement officer in Klamath Falls. In this role, you will help protect Oregon’s highways and structures by enforcing size and weight restrictions, inspecting vehicles for compliance, interviewing drivers and issuing citations as necessary. You will work with other agencies to help monitor and prevent commercial carriers from operating in unsafe manners. We provide extensive training and a comprehensive benefits package. A day in the life:

  • Monitor and maintain safe and effective scale operations.

  • Evaluate commercial trucks as they enter weigh stations for compliance and registration.

  • Explain regulations and resolve situations with drivers who may be confused, reluctant to provide information or who have language differences.

  • Issue citations when necessary and calculate fees appropriately.

  • Prepare written reports and provide expert testimony when representing ODOT in court cases regarding disputed citations.

  • Provide technical training to interested parties on laws, rules and regulations pertaining to safety, size, weight, tax and registration of commercial vehicles.

  • Monitor weigh station bypass routes by driving to remote locations to identify vehicles bypassing without authorization.

  • Required to work flexible work scheduled to ensure coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Travel throughout the state is required and may include overnight stays.

  • Work is performed in all types of weather conditions and requires the ability to bend, stoop, climb and crawl. Must be able to lift and move 35-pound portable scales.

  • The salary range listed is the non-PERS monthly salary range. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible, the salary range will increase by ​6.95%​.

Minimum qualifications:
Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in person or by phone, providing information about services/programs, or explaining and/or applying laws, rules, regulations/procedures.

AND

experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.

Completion of an associate's degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.

Special qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
