ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Receives, sorts, prepares incoming U.S. Mail and internal Academies mail for distribution.
2. Distributes mail to pre-established internal mail areas or as required.
3. Collects outgoing and internal Academies mail.
4. Wraps, seals, weighs, and posts outgoing mail. May operate postal machines as needed.
5. Maintains file of open and completed orders for items received and processed.
6. Utilizes handheld data terminals to ensure all equipment furnishings to be inventoried are properly bar-coded prior to delivery to user groups.
7. May maintain records on postage, registration of mail, and packages.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of personal computer equipment. Good customer service skills. Ability to solve problems basic and repetitive in nature. Ability to work successfully in a team environment. Ability to develop relationships with co-workers and employees in other National Academies’ departments through effective communication. Good communication skills with a proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent knowledge.
Minimum Experience: Six months of related experience.
Physical Capabilities: Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Job requires lifting, reaching, and stooping. Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.
Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: Requires a valid driver’s license.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Reports to Supervisor. Supervisor is present to organize work.
Compensation Range: The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine support equity, fairness, and transparency in our compensation programs. An estimated compensation range for this position is $18.44 - $23.05 per hour, plus potential overtime. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will be based on the candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, and work experience, commensurate with compensation of current employees in comparable positions with similar knowledge, skills, and work experience, and subject to budget parameters. Note it is not typical for a candidate to be hired at the higher end of the range. This is a benefits-eligible position. Work Environment: Office environment. May require travel between National Academies’ facilities and to off-site locations.
