WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Idaho Policy Fellow will work in partnership with internal and external partners to advance TNC's climate and conservation objectives. The role is focused on advancing the responsible deployment of renewable energy and local climate solutions to maximize benefits for climate, conservation, and communities. As the Idaho Policy Fellow, you will work in partnership with TNC Idaho staff to develop and implement climate and renewable energy projects. You will also have opportunity to support advocacy work across other conservation priorities in Idaho as needed.


WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU

The Idaho Policy Fellow builds and facilitates internal and external networks, coordinates meetings, agendas, and presentations, conducts research, and leads other activities in support of the Idaho climate and renewable energy program. They support or lead climate and renewable energy projects as assigned. They help to develop strategic partnerships with relevant non-profit organizations, industry, local governments, and other partners to advance The Nature Conservancy's climate and renewable energy goals.

This is a two-year termed position.

Responsibilities & Scope

  • Strengthen TNC's reputation as an effective, credible, nonpartisan partner on renewable energy deployment, climate, and conservation issues.
  • Support relationships and collaboration with county governments, non-profit organizations, industry, Tribal governments, and academic institutions.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with a diverse range of individuals and organizations with respect for political and local community sensitivities.
  • Develop and lead engagement with select county governments on clean energy planning and ordinances.
  • Support or lead renewable energy advocacy projects, such as focus groups, partner convenings, and research.
  • Work as part of a team of policy professionals and help support Idaho policy and advocacy work as assigned.
  • Participate in TNC's Western Division climate & renewable energy program as assigned.
  • Frequent travel and flexible evening hours are necessary at times.
  • Position is Idaho based with a preference for southern Idaho. Travel across southern Idaho is required.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelors Degree and a minimum of 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive reporting structure.
  • Experience writing and editing promotional and informational material.
  • Experience presenting to and communicating with internal and external audiences.
  • Experience working with partners/government agencies.
  • Experience interacting with senior leadership in a professional manner.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Experience coordinating complex projects in a decentralized organization, working across teams, operating units and functions to achieve optimal results.
  • Experience building networks, facilitating informational sessions, increasing internal knowledge and capacity, and identifying key stakeholders.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in renewable energy, climate change, and public policy.
  • Familiarity with Idaho climate and renewable energy issues.
  • Familiarity with Idaho politics and environmental policy.
  • Self-starting, independent worker who can thrive in a decentralized organization with minimal oversight.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

AUTO SAFETY POLICY

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program.

Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.


SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $55,000-58,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
