About the Position:
The Club at Spruce Peak is seeking a qualified applicant for the position of Golf Course Superintendent at Stowe Country Club. The superintendent will be a professional individual who will lead the day-to-day operations. The primary role of this position is to work directly with the assistant superintendent, equipment technician, and seasonal crew in day-to-day maintenance and management of the golf course. The superintendent will have full control of the seasonal staff. Stowe Country Club is associated with The Mountain Course as part of the 36-hole golf offering at The Club at Spruce Peak. Both golf courses are managed under the leadership of the Director of Agronomy. The Director of Agronomy makes recommendations and develops long-range plans, but on course, decisions will be left primarily to the superintendent. The candidate needs to be proficient in timely decision-making, multi-tasking, crew leadership and knowledge of golf maintenance practices. The superintendent will be required to assist and/or lead project work including drainage, irrigation, construction, etc. The superintendent will be responsible for managing the crew, job assignment, agronomic and cultural practices, chemical/fertilizer applications, and water management. Preference will be given to those who exhibit strong leadership traits and effective interpersonal skills.
About the Course:
Stowe Country Club is an 18-hole private golf club originally designed by William Mitchell that opened in 1969. The golf course is set in the iconic village of Stowe, VT with views of the Worcester mountain range, Mount Mansfield, and Camel’s Hump. The golf course is undergoing a major renovation. All greens, tees, bunkers, fairways, and irrigation are being renovated. Stowe Country Club has partnered with Beau Welling Design as the architect, Paul Granger as the irrigation consultant, and NMP Golf Construction as the general contractor. We will open the newly renovated front nine and close the back nine for renovation in the spring of 2025. The grand opening of the full 18-holes will be in the spring of 2026. A new 13,000 square foot turf care center was built in 2024 to support the newly renovated golf course.
The candidate will lead the opening and operation of the new front nine along with supporting the grow-in of the new back nine as it is completed. Irrigation scheduling will be a major component of the grow-in support.
