The School of Kinesiology is one of the fastest-growing schools at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Currently, we have three undergraduate majors, five graduate degree programs, and 28 research labs and centers. Financial Management and Processing (40%)
- Oversee financial administrative operations for the school. (E)
- Review business transactions for compliance with relevant policies and regulations. Provide unit authorization for business transactions. (E)
- Determine and establish new chartfield combinations as needed. Make recommendations to improve the school ledger, as appropriate. (E)
- Monthly review of accounts to ensure overdrafts are covered, closeouts are prepared and processed. Work with faculty, staff, and shared services on discrepancies. Work with faculty and the school's grant administrator to provide support and documentation for the sponsor to get approval for charges or to request no-cost extensions. (E)
Financial Planning and Reporting (25%)
- Assist in the development of the school's operating budget. This includes collaborating with the school's Executive Director and other school administrators to develop and implement budgets. Lead the preparation of department annual budget letters and dissemination.(E)
- Oversee the year-end budget roll-up and analysis of budget proposal uses for the next year submission. (E)
- Originate the budget upload document, review with the Executive Director and submit into the university system. Work closely with the Executive Director to look at future costs of bringing in new faculty (startup packages, moving expenses & lab renovations), new initiatives, as well as documented support for new requests. (E)
- Manage all funding commitments with the Office of Budget and Planning, Provost offices, and other schools/colleges (includes communicating and requesting the funds once approved). (E)
Internal Controls Oversight (15%)
- Implement university policies and procedures. (E)
- Monitor school compliance with internal controls procedures. (E)
- Workflow coordination and direction to direct reports: set up Internal Controls and work with individuals to ensure that we are universally compliant; follow up with putting together the FY unit certification paperwork for the Executive Director and the Dean to review and sign off on. (E)
Supervision, Training, and Communications (15%)
- Interact and work closely with University Procurement offices on service agreement projects and other situations when appropriate. (E)
- Problem Solving - Work with department heads and program chairs to assist them in reviewing/streamlining their budget and assist with forecasting their budgets for the remaining FY they are working in and possibilities on how they might rework their budget requests to better fit their needs. Work with faculty and their staff to look at how they spend funds on their accounts to try and make sure they are staying compliant with grant restrictions and close out procedures. (E)
- Ensure that staff/direct reports receive the training that they need to complete new initiatives (e.g. AST, eRecon) or changes to existing ones. Work with staff/direct reports to review workflow and look for efficiency. Assist direct reports on working with faculty on how to submit sole source documents for purchasing submission. (E)

Required Qualifications*
- Bachelors degree in business administration or a financially related field.
- At least 4 years of relevant work experience in financial administration.
- Significant experience with financial planning and management.
- Knowledge of different university fund types and regulations.
- High level of proficiency with technology and software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom).
- Experience with financial reporting systems and leveraging technology to provide analysis.
- Proven success with contributing to a positive workplace culture, and ability to consistently demonstrate our school's core values.
Desired Qualifications*
- Masters degree in business administration or a financially related field.
- At least 6 years of progressive financial administration experience, preferably in higher education.
- At least 2 years of experience supervising others; planning and directing work, and providing performance management.
- Working knowledge of the university activity-based funding model, standard practices and guidelines, internal controls, endowments, scholarship process and student financial aid.
- Experience with Business Objects and Tableau.
- Working knowledge of Wolverine Access, M-Pathways, and M-Reports.

Additional Information
The general salary range for this position is $105,000 - $120,000. An offer may be extended outside of this range based on equity, experience, knowledge, and skills for the position. This position has the potential for a hybrid schedule with a remote option up to 2 days/week (with Wednesdays being a required in-office day). Remote work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment.
The position has administrative oversight of 3.0 FTE (2 Financial Specialists and 1 Administrative Assistant), as well functional supervision of the Research Administrator Intermediate.
