JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for leading the efforts that support the distribution automation (DA) efforts at Mississippi Power Company, including the distribution self-healing networks (SHN) and high-density coordination (HDC) schemes. The primary functions of this position include the day-to-day coordination of Distribution Test Technicians regarding:
- Commissioning of new distribution automation devices & controls.
- Commissioning of new distribution recloser, regulator, capacitor banks & switchgear controls.
- Commissioning of new or modified SHNs, HDC schemes or other special distribution schemes.
- Troubleshooting communications to all distribution devices.
- Troubleshooting operational concerns with all distribution devices.
- Analyzing SHN events.
In addition to directing the efforts of others, this position is also responsible for:
- Performing DSCADA point-to-point checkout of all new distribution automation controls.
- Providing updated load limits in DSCADA.
- Providing updated devices information to the DistGIS editors and appropriate P&C personnel.
- Overall support of the existing DA Work Order Management System.
- Review of all SHN operations.
- Translating the plans from the PD System Improvement Committee to actionable additions or changes to SHNs and high-density coordination (HDC) schemes.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- BSEE is required and a Power or Protection specialty is preferred.
- Ability to analyze system disturbances.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills.
- Lead & direct the work or others.
- Ability to plan work scheduled in advance yet be flexible to an ever-changing work environment.
- Ability to work well across departmental boundaries and with differing personalities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervising, training, and developing technical personnel.
- Keeping abreast of changing technology in the field of distribution automation.
- Maintaining customer satisfaction by responding quickly to problems and providing quality service.

- Representing Mississippi Power on system-wide committees involving distribution automation activities.
- Providing technical assistance to local operations personnel regarding maintenance & troubleshooting equipment control schemes as well as providing detailed technical assistance to the Distribution Test Technicians.
- Maintaining P&C asset data in the asset management system.
- Coordination with other departments such as the Distribution Control Center and Distribution Operations on operational and maintenance issues.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be available to work outside normal business hours.
- Must live in or be willing to relocate to a commutable distance of the Gulfport, MS Operations Center office location.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
- Direct supervision of the Distribution Test Technicians
- This position reports to the Manager – System Protection & Control
