We are looking for you to join our team as a Field Supplier Quality Engineer. Full-Time telework may considered for this role.
While this position is remote, the preferred candidate will be located in one of the following areas: Chicago metro, San Diego, Sunnyvale, Denver, Salt Lake City, or Baltimore. The selected candidate must be in an easy distance of a major international airport as heavy travel of up to 75-95% is expected, at times with very short notice. The candidate must have either a valid passport or real-ID.
The Field Supplier Quality Engineer will support multiple programs by conducting Source Inspections and Audits and performing First Article Inspections.
The ideal candidate will be well versed in manufacturing processes specifically mechanical assemblies (machined, welding). The candidate must have the ability to work through quality issues collaboratively and manage suppliers to determine root causes and implement robust corrective actions.
What you will get to do:
• Assure supplier process and product quality, including contractual, regulatory, and technical compliance.
• Perform Specification Compliance Reviews.
• Perform Source inspections at various Suppliers either local and nationally (Travel is required).
• Perform Supplier manufacturing process audits on regular basis.
• Participate in Suppliers selections, Pre-FAI reviews, and in internal customer meetings as the Field Supplier Quality (SQ) representative.
• Initiate Corrective Action Plans and work with suppliers, manufacturing and engineering personnel to identify root causes and ensure robust corrective actions are implemented.
• Review Drawing requirements and related specifications, and understand what will be needed to successfully perform First Article Inspections at Suppliers.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis using concepts such as 8D, 5 Whys, and Fish-bone diagram, etc.
• Proactive reduction and prevention of supplied material defect occurrences and verification of supplied material defect claims.
• Be able to analyze and present data to collaborate and foster positive working relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
• Responsible for Supplier Quality risk management and return to "green" plans.
• Actively engages in supplier evaluation, qualification and selection as part of the Business Acquisition Process.
• Keep management apprised of supplier performance, quality status, and risks.
• Be able to review NADCAP special process suppliers and have in-depth knowledge in special processes such as welding, brazing, plating, etc.
• Be able to analyze and present data to collaborate and foster positive working relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
• Analyze quality metrics to understand current trends with Supplier quality and respond accordingly.
• Be able to use existing data extracted from SAP to perform trend analysis on Suppliers.
The ideal candidate will have Strong communication and leadership skills and will be able to work with multiple teams and be able to accommodate various styles in communications. Must be very customer oriented with great sense of urgency. They will be independent and able to work with no or little supervision and will be able to maintain a very positive relationship with internal teams and external team, especially with Suppliers.
Basic Requirements for the Field Supplier Quality Engineer:
• Bachelor's Degree in a related STEM field.
• A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in engineering, manufacturing, operations, industrial engineering, quality engineering, Supplier Quality or Supply Chain environments.
• Must be able to travel up to75- 95% of the time with very short notice.
• Must be able to support local source inspections at local suppliers, which will require driving to those suppliers' sites.
• Experience with one or more of the following: ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality Management System certification process, GD&T, J-STD, Machining processes, coating process (including various types of plating), vacuum brazing, and welding.
Preferred Requirements for the Field Supplier Quality Engineer:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
• M.S. in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, electrical engineering.
• MBA with Supply Chain focus or M.S. in Supply Chain Management.
• ASQ Certified.
• Deep Experience in Brazing of Aluminum, mainly Vacuum Brazing and the specifications that governs brazing and heat-treat.
• Experience with NADCAP.
• Certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.
• Experience in Aluminum welding, brazing, coating, and machining preferably in the aerospace industry.
• Experience with SAP.
• Experience analyzing supplier's quality trends and respond accordingly via SCARS or Audits.
• Experience reviewing drawings and 3D models to understand the parts and how they are made.
• Experience assessing both supplier quality and manufacturing processes and procedures.
Salary Range: $73,900 - $110,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
