Position Summary:

Toyota Material Handling is an ISO 14001 and 9001-2008 certified forklift manufacturing facility in Columbus, IN. We are current seeking a candidate to join our Engineering team in our New Product Development Group.

Our New Product Development Group is committed to helping our customers be successful, whether it be by developing efficient, safe and state-of-the-art material handling equipment or by creating next generation fleet management systems. The New Product Development department is a fast-paced department that is growing quickly, but is still committed to upholding Toyota's Core Values, putting the customer first, and always striving to continuously improve.

This position will be responsible for effectively designing and implementing firmware on new and existing electric OEM forklift components, including controllers, displays, and others. The position requires a strong technically-oriented individual with good communication, a strong ability to work on a team, and a genuine interest in hands-on engineering.

The engineer that would fit best in this position is hard working, detailed orientated, humble, honest, open-minded to opinions, and driven to succeed. A successful engineer in this role would always put the customer's needs first, and would be engaged in the work she or he completes. This engineer takes responsibility for mistakes and shares successes with the team, and strives endlessly for improvement. Lastly, the ideal candidate is dynamic and adaptable and is open to taking on new challenges every day.

Responsibilities:

  • Study product requirements and create functional requirements for embedded system design
  • Support development of embedded Linux environments while supporting existing systems
  • Implement Bluetooth, WiFi, cellular, and other communication protocols and stacks
  • Develop and maintain OTA bootloaders
  • Debug code using common tools such as JTAG
  • Design vehicle management controllers including control algorithms, sensing algorithms, and others
  • Conduct feasibility studies for requested features before confirming functional requirements
  • Maintain detailed schedules that support overall product schedules and properly communicate status to management
  • Create and update technical documentation, test plans, and test results
  • Support prototype builds, troubleshooting prototypes, and other similar activities
  • Analyze test results and provide conclusive reports
  • Work on a team to complete projects with high quality while maintaining schedules

Education & Experience:

Requires BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent with experience in firmware design, or related field of study.

Experience/Skills/Special Requirements:

  • 5-8 years of combined full-time, co-op, or internship experience required
  • C/C++ experience is required
  • Development experience on processor platforms, namely ARM processors, required
  • Previous embedded Linux development experience is required, including kernel and device drivers
  • Familiarity with the Yocto Framework is preferred
  • Familiarity with communication middleware such as MQTT is preferred
  • C# development, as well as Python or other scripting language experience preferred
  • Vehicle communication protocols such as J1939 or CANOpen preferred
  • Analysis tools such as Vector CANAlyzer and others preferred
