Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Controls and Systems Electrical Engineering Level 3/4 Lead based out of Sunnyvale, CA. This role is part of the advanced development team that will be developing next generation technology and architecture for propulsion and power generation machinery for US Navy submarines. What you'll get to do:
The Controls and Systems Electrical Engineering Lead Level 3/4 will lead a team of engineers to explore, design, develop, and test our control systems and its related hardware for our Turbine Generators. This position requires the ability to lead a multidiscipline team, manage and complete tasks within budget and schedule, and turn ideas into reality. In addition to providing project and technical leadership you will be asked to perform the following:
• Develop control system architectures including establishing requirements
• Review control system hardware, firmware, and software designs
• Create system models that demonstrate control system performance characteristics including stability analysis
• Review DC bus architectures, including associated AC-DC conversion power electronics
• Create and evaluate grounding diagrams
• Ensure designs meet EMI requirements
• Develop and review position sensor designs
• Ensure control system analog or digital circuits correctly interface with external sensors or actuators.
• Review and evaluate amplifier and power switching designs
• Have an understanding of magnetic bearing and generator designs
• Manage and act as primary point of contact for control system hardware supplier
• Troubleshoot issues that arise during component or system testing
This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below:
Basic Qualifications for Level 3:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years related experience; or Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline 3 years related experience.
• 3 years of experience in controls design and analysis.
• Experience implementing designs.
• Solid understanding of control systems.
• Solid understanding of electrical engineering concepts and designs.
• Solid understanding of electrical machines.
• Demonstrated technical team leadership.
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink for system analysis
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.
Basic Qualifications for Level 4:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 8 years related experience; or Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline 6 years related experience.
• 3 years of experience in controls design and analysis.
• Experience implementing designs.
• Solid understanding of control systems.
• Solid understanding of electrical engineering concepts and designs.
• Solid understanding of electrical machines.
• Demonstrated technical team leadership.
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink for system analysis
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with electric machines for marine propulsion applications.
• Experience with naval nuclear propulsion programs.
• Experience with Magnetic Bearings.
• Experience with voltage and speed controls.
• Leadership experience and interest
Salary Range: $110,300 - $165,500
Salary Range 2: $137,400 - $206,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
