Job Description

The Millsboro Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Associate Director leads a team accountable for providing and managing an efficient and effective health, safety and environmental management system for the Millsboro, Delaware our Company Animal Health site, which is a mixed use facility involving research, manufacturing, utilities/support, and administrative activities.The Associate Director influences site leadership ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, corporate standards, policies, and procedures related to EHS as well as industry best practices. This position is also accountable for supporting the integration of EHS performance objectives into standard work processes, and developing strategies to achieve EHS objectives in alignment with site business goals and values.

The Associate Director of EHS for Millsboro sits within the Global Safety & Environment organization, and reports to the Director of Safety & Environment of Animal Health for the North America Region.

Responsibilities:

  • Exercise a high degree of independence, leading and guiding professional EHS staff activities to ensure site-wide compliance and foster a culture of personal ownership and accountability among all employees.

  • Serve as a member of Site Leadership team and provide both EHS and business insights.

  • Manage a diverse team of EHS Professionals; identify, coach and develop talent.

  • Plan, develop and implement EHS programs to assure continuous compliance with local, state and federal legislation, Company standards and industry best practices; serve as interface with local governmental EHS agencies and insurance carriers.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, complex technical and regulatory information to both senior level leaders and shop floor employees at the site.

  • Manage budgetary & capital needs to support EHS initiatives, projects and programs.

  • Conduct thorough investigations of EHS incidents and near misses to identify potential risks and hazards, identify root causes, and establish effective corrective and preventive action plans; regularly monitor and evaluate effectiveness of mitigation efforts.

  • Oversee and facilitate thorough change management processes for all EHS initiatives, ensuring that each transition is effectively planned and executed to maintain continuous compliance with applicable regulations and organizational standards.

  • Drive continuous improvement focused on both approaches and outcomes.

  • Assure completion of required reports to site, divisional and/or corporate management and regulatory agencies.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, safety, or related technical discipline.

  • CSP, PE, or CIH preferred

Experience:

Required

  • 7+ years of progressive EHS experience.

  • At least 3 years of demonstrated experience managing direct reports, attracting talent & building a strong team.

  • Strong project management skills, supporting multiple activities/projects simultaneously.

  • Experience working with EHS regulatory agencies and corporate support functions.

  • Demonstrated skills in complying with one or more regulatory programs: RCRA, Title V, OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and High-Risk Work (e.g. elevated work, confined space, hot work, lock out tag out, etc.).

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
