About the Education Department

The Met's Department of Education-dedicated to making art meaningful and accessible for everyone-is central to the mission of the Museum. The Department is a national and international leader in museum-based education and public programming, pushing boundaries through continuous innovation and experimentation. In-person and virtual programs include high school and college internships that promote career development and diversity; PreK-12 educator programs that train teachers to integrate art into curricula across disciplines; lectures and symposia that feature preeminent artists and scholarship; daily tours in multiple languages, and so much more.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As the Assistant Educator, College & University Programs, you will co-manage and provide administrative support for the undergraduate & graduate internship programs, college events and faculty programs. You will lead outreach to colleges & universities, coordinate the planning and recruitment of interns, and broaden engagement with college students throughout New York City & the Tri-State area.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Manage the planning, recruiting, facilitation, programming, budget development and management, and evaluation for The Met Collective, The Met's college student engagement group

  • Manage the Museum's annual Design Competition and College Night, in consultation with The Met Collective, the Associate Educator, and The Costume Institute staff

  • Co-develop and co-facilitate internship program content and curriculum in consultation with the Associate Educator, College and University Programs

  • Conduct college outreach, including advertising and online information sessions for students

  • Oversee and execute college programs logistics, working closely with program leaders and Education Operations staff and others across the Museum to ensure program coordination, efficiency, and communication.

  • Coordinate the scheduling and logistical planning of internship programs.

  • Assist with and provide on-site day-to-day support for undergraduate and graduate interns.

  • Maintain the internship program's online application system, including editing applications, responding to staff and applicant queries, and communicating with technical support for the application system

  • Process and administer the review of internship applications; coordinate with Met staff regarding selection and application review

  • Monitor and maintain budgets and track expenses for all College and University Programs (including internships, Career Insights, College Night, The Observant Eye, and The Met Collective)

  • Organize and prepare internally- and externally-facing program communications, including regular entries and updates to the Museum's web content and event/personnel management systems, confirmation letters, and publications.

  • Assist with internship program evaluation and reporting

  • Track quarterly program attendance statistics

  • Maintain College Programs email inbox, responding to all student, applicant, and faculty inquiries

  • Teach college audiences, as well as programs for a variety of audiences at the Museum

  • Ensure program frameworks and teaching approaches align with the Museum's teaching goals and advance The Met's Vision 2025.

  • Assist with program planning and implementation across all of Education

  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience

  • Background in art history, studio art, museum education or studies, or related field preferred

  • Three years of experience in a museum or non-profit environment

  • Experience and demonstrated interest in museum education, museum administration and working with undergraduate students in informal learning environments

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with individuals from a wide range of social, economic, cultural and educational backgrounds; track record of expanding and diversifying participation and audience levels in educational offerings

  • Experience teaching with original works of art and objects in a museum setting

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to effectively and professionally communicate with a wide range of constituencies, verbally and in writing

  • Strong project management and collaboration skills

  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple, logistically complex activities simultaneously within a museum setting

  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, remain flexible, problem-solve, and take initiative

  • Knowledge of languages preferred

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (MSWord, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

  • Strong proficiency with database management and application systems

  • Strong technical skills and experience with information systems and digital platforms

  • Work evenings and weekends as needed

COMPENSATION RANGE:

  • Pay Range $74,000.00 - $76,000.00 / Annually
