Job Summary
The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and innovative individual to manage the Office of Education. This position reports to the Chief Department Administrator of the Department of Emergency Medicine with functional responsibility to the Associate Chair for Education. This role will work closely with EM Education Leaders to design, develop, and implement curriculum and instruction for medical students, residents and fellows, and continuing medical education for physicians and other clinicians for the department.

The Department of Emergency Medicine at U-M is dedicated to creating the future of emergency care through advanced clinical practice, cutting edge research, innovative education, and service to the health system, community, and our global partners.
Our clinical operations at University Hospital (UH), Children?s and Women?s Hospital (C&W) and Hurley Medical Center (HMC) are focused on continuously improving the quality of patient care and optimizing the patient care experience. Our training programs include a required rotation for all UM medical students, a four-year residency with 64 residents that rotate to four clinical sites including UH, C&W, HMC and Trinity Health Ann Arbor and 8 different fellowships to incorporate the latest innovations in medical education. Our broad research portfolio spans the spectrum of emergency medicine, ranging from molecular biology to health policy, with significant expertise in multicenter clinical trials, injury prevention and emergency critical care. In terms of service, our faculty hold significant leadership roles in the medical school, hospitals, health system and national organizations. They also serve the local community in Ann Arbor and globally through our leadership of emergency medicine training programs in Ghana.

Responsibilities*
- Manage the administrative and operational aspects of the Department of Emergency Medicine educational programs including the core Residency program; Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM), Ultrasound, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Medical Education (MedEd) fellowship programs; and Medical Student programs with broad authority to approve business transactions and administrative procedures. Direct the development, implementation and evaluation of new programs.
- Assist the Residency and Fellowship Program Directors, Medical Student Education Director, and Associate Chair for Education in an assortment of projects as requested.
- Supervise Residency Program Administrator, Fellowship Administrators, Medical Student Administrator, and other staff positions including approve/coordinate time off, approve timesheets, delegate job responsibilities, annual evaluations, and coordinate cross-training of educational staff positions.
- Assure compliance of graduate medical education and medical student education to applicable University, Hospital, Medical School, and Department and outside agencies rules and guidelines.
- Represent the department on administrative matters related to medical student education and graduate medical education with faculty, education staff and appropriate Medical School and Hospital education staff including interactions are all four training sites including Hurley Medical Center and Trinity Health Ann Arbor.
- Coordinate and complete the UMHS Internal Review and ACGME Site Visit documentation.
- Maintain contact with the UM Office of Graduate Medical Education. Coordinate off-site contract development and management (i.e., Hurley and Trinity Health Ann Arbor).
- Oversee budget (including monthly FTE Reports and program expenses.) Ensure financial transactions are consistent with UM requirements/regulations.
- Plan annual graduation program with Emergency Medicine Events Manager assistance.
- Oversee website maintenance of the education section.
- Development and maintenance of alumni database.
- Oversee the continuing medical education (CME) process for the education applications and submit annual renewals to the CME office.
- Participate in education committee meetings.
- Additional responsibilities / duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience in management including the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with well-developed editing and proofreading abilities.
- Excellent planning, organizational and work coordination skills, including the ability to prioritize complex work assignments with excellent attention to detail and maintain a forward-thinking, positive, flexible, responsive service-oriented attitude.
- Understands and values diversity and the importance of inclusion as demonstrated through a commitment to apply and incorporate the differences, complexities, and opportunities that diversity brings to an organization.
- Ability to collect, analyze and share data via various mediums including Excel and PowerPoint.
Desired Qualifications*
- Master's degree or other graduate degree in a related field.
- Prior experience working in academic healthcare or an academic research setting.
- Knowledge of University organizational structure, policies, procedures, and practices; and working familiarity with and appreciation of the diverse cultures of the schools, colleges, and units of the University.
- Knowledge of medical education from a GME and UME perspective.
Work Locations
Hybrid with plan for ~3 days per week in office in Ann Arbor, MI

Background Screening
