Provide leadership and direction for the Environmental, Health and Safety and Security of the site. Responsible for the evaluation of existing EH'S policies/programs and the implementation of new processes/procedures to ensure compliance with federal/state/local laws as well as regulatory requirements. - Provide direction, oversight, leadership and alignment of environmental, facilities, industrial hygiene, safety, loss prevention, security and site services functions, directing the development, implementation, and maintenance of related policies, guidelines, procedures, and plans as required by internal and external regulations which incorporate current industry best practices.
- Oversee the maintenance and submission of compliance, permitting, and other regulatory records and reports.
- Direct the negotiation of OSHA and related licenses and permits with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Oversee and manage industrial hygiene, hazardous waste, infectious and Infectious waste, air and water emissions compliance, and the sites construction safety and health program.
- Oversee site compliance with all laws/regulations governing community and employees as related to chemical right-to-know, biohazard handling and control.
- Develop and direct proactive safety and health program elements which provide leading indication of the effectiveness of the sites safety and health program.
- Develop a culture within the site where all employees become an extension of the Safety, Health and Environmental Department.
- Direct the Security Department's actions as a business partner in the planning, design, implementation of site security programs, ensuring compliance with Corporate guidelines and policies.
- Direct the Environmental, Health and Safety Department actions as a business partner to the business in the planning, design, implementation of manufacturing processes by recommending proactive control technology.
- Direct the Environmental Department in various environmental topics to include minimizing waste by playing an active role in the research, design, and start-up of equipment leading to a reduction in pollution via air, water or solid waste.
- Coach, mentor, lead and manage departmental employees.
- Ensure that training and other personal development programs are in place for succession planning and the development of subordinates.
- Ensure that performance opportunities are pro-actively managed through the Performance Management system.
- Prepare capital, expense, and head count budgets.
- Actively lead the Crisis Management and Business Continuity Program, including maintenance and updating of the Crisis Management and Business Continuity Manual.
- Responsible to develop and implement training for all program participants annually.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in environmental, occupational health and safety or related discipline is required with a minimum of seven (7) years of directly related EH'S experience.
- Experience must be inclusive of at least five (5) years progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the Bio production, Pharmaceutical industry or related environment.
- A thorough understanding of relevant federal/state/local laws and regulations, including CDC, OSHA, EPA,and DEA is required.
- Demonstrated experience coaching and managing employees in positions of increasing responsibility and influencing key stakeholders.
- May be required to travel nationally and internationally.
- Physical Demands / Surroundings
- Lifting 0-50 pounds occasionally; carrying, pushing and pulling <25 pounds occasionally
- May require frequent periods of sitting, walking, and standing
- Climb stairs and ladders occasionally
- Crouching/squatting, bending/stooping, twisting, Fine finger dexterity/ including grasping required casionally
- Writing frequently
- Frequent periods of use of Personal Protective Equipment
- Periods of physical activity in work environments of high or low temperatures and/or high or low humidity occasionally
- Visual / Hearing Demands
- Depth perception required.
- May require extended hours at a computer screen.
- Must be able to read electronic documents of all types.
- Hearing acuity required.
