The Marin County Department of Finance is responsible for the powers and duties of the offices of the auditor, controller, tax collector, treasurer, and public administrator. We serve as a collaborative partner and fiscal advisor to the County government in their consideration of fiscal decisions and planning. We strive to inspire and elevate public trust in the County government by safeguarding the County's financial integrity, advocating, and implementing best practices, and ensuring compliance with mandates and fiduciary responsibilities.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Department of Finance is to instill the public's trust and ensure the financial integrity of the County of Marin by safeguarding the County's funds and promoting the prudent utilization of resources.

ABOUT THE POSITION

There is currently one (1) Accountant II position with the Fiscal Administrative Services Division.

This position is located on-site reporting to the Marin County Civic Center building in San Rafael, CA. A flexible hybrid schedule may be available after successfully completing the probationary period.

The Fiscal Administrative Services Division is seeking a skilled and motivated Accountant II to join its dedicated team of fiscal experts within a centralized government environment. This vital role involves performing advanced accounting duties under general supervision, ensuring fiscal integrity, regulatory compliance, and financial transparency across the County.

The Accountant II will play a key role in high-impact initiatives, including leading the collection and analysis of complex financial data for the Countywide Annual Cost Allocation Plan and coordinating consultants to prepare and submit State Mandate (SB90) reimbursement claims. This position also involves reviewing interdepartmental charges and direct billing activities for compliance, reconciling financial reports, and acting as a backup for countywide budget oversight to maintain fiscal control.

The Accountant II will collaborate with internal departments, auditors, and external partners to validate transactions and ensure accounting accuracy, develop and communicate accounting procedures, and provide technical support to non-accounting users. Additionally, the role supports disaster cost recovery efforts by compiling and reconciling financial documentation and processes departmental payables while assisting with the administration of the County travel program.

ABOUT YOU

Are you a strong communicator who excels at building bridges between internal departments and external partners? Do you thrive in collaborative environments where your expertise in governmental accounting, cost accounting, and budgeting truly makes an impact? If so, you might be the perfect fit for our team.

We're looking for someone who excels in data analysis, effortlessly navigating large datasets with Microsoft Excel to deliver precise and efficient results. If you're highly organized, detail-oriented, and reliable-consistently producing high-quality work both independently and collaboratively-you could be the perfect fit for our team.

Are you a self-motivated individual who takes initiative and thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments? If you have experience with ERP systems or other enterprise financial platforms, especially within the public sector or with a strong cost-accounting background, that's a huge plus! If this sounds like you, we encourage you to apply and become an integral part of our Fiscal Administrative Services Division
